When you want some new flair to your look, but not a spectacular change, Spa Villa stylists can add just the the highlights and lowlights you want to your personal hairstyle or hair length.

Corrective Color

A spectacular change of hair color can magically transform your look. However, whether you try it at home or in a very exclusive salon, sometimes thing just don't work out.

Safe color correction requires prompt action to ensure the desired results, perhaps within 48 to 72 hours. This is not something for the home chemistry set, because of the risk of serious hair damage. Realize that a major color change can't be modified quickly if you don't like it. You might need several salon visits to return to a suitable color.

Some things to try at home first

Some chlorine enhanced greens can be removed with a special chlorine removal shampoo. When all else fails, try the tomato juice soak. The red in the juice will neutralize the green in many cases.

Many people have color disasters with henna. Not only does henna coat the hair, it is highly unpredictable for some users. If a horrid shade of henna is haunting you, reach for good old fashioned mineral oil.

Avoid Color Disasters from Your Stylist

You can avoid color disasters by careful discussion with your Spa Villa stylist to be sure where you are both going. A picture of the exact hue can be helpful. Different people react differently to various hair coloring processes. If you think it is not going well, stop instantly, especially if your scalp starts to sting or burn.

Permanent

Perms have come a long way since the 80s when I sported the very fake-y, 'crimped' perm. These days perms can be fine-tuned to give you exactly the kind of wave you want. You can get perms that just add body to fine, limp hair, you can get loose, sexy waves or you can go for the corkscrew curls that many straight-haired girls covet.

Who should get a perm?

Perms work best on hair that has not been colored. The chemicals are too harsh for double-processed or heavily highlighted hair. Not sure if your hair is a good candidate for a perm? Ask your stylist.

How long does a perm last?

Generally about two to six months.

Straightener

Your hair can be made curly or wavy with a perm; Spa Villa stylists can also "relax" your curls to straighten your hair. Chemical are used to relax the hair into straightness. You will need to provide extra care for your hair: a deep conditioning a couple of times a week, and careful detangling. You'll have a new range of hair styles to choose with straight hair, but you'll need to plan on extra hair care. It's not a good idea to relax and color hair at the same time. If you must color, wait a few weeks after straightening.

Maintenance

Once hair has been chemically straightened it requires extra special care to overcome the effects of the drying chemicals. Relaxed hair will require deep conditioning treatments at least 1-2 times a week. Be sure to use a good detangling product and to use a wide toothed comb to detonable from the ends of the hair to the roots.

While straightening will offer a new range of hair styles, it should not be undertaken lightly because it may damage the hair and it will require a new commitment to post relaxing conditioning and special hair care.

How long will it last?

Typically a strong relaxing treatment will last up to 6 months depending on the hair's texture and growth. Most experts agree that hair should be relaxed no more than every three months. While relaxing may make hair more manageable and easier to control, one misstep can cause terrible hair damage as well.

Avoid relaxing hair and then coloring it at the same time. This can be very risky for the hair. If you absolutely must color and relax your hair in the same time period it is best to relax the hair first and then wait 2-4 weeks before color is applied.
